Showdown with Auburn or Alabama would be perfect

There is no doubt that some people, especially Big Ten West fans of Minnesota and Wisconsin would be upset if the Wolverines were selected by the Capital One Bowl, however, bowl season isn’t about being fair.

It’s about creating the best matchup and if that’s probably why we are hearing whispers about the Capital One bowl wanting Michigan. The Wolverines haven’t been in the bowl since Jim Harbaugh‘s first season and a matchup against either Alabama or Auburn is incredibly tantalizing.

For U-M, the chance to play Alabama would be the ideal scenario. What better way to prove your program is on the rise than by beating the Crimson Tide. It’s not Ohio State, but in terms of perception, it might be the next best thing.

There would be a ton of focus on Harbaugh and Saban, yet it could be a fun matchup. Both offenses look really good, while the defenses have question marks.

Even if the Wolverines don’t see Bama, playing Auburn would give the team a chance to end with a marquee win, something this team and this program desperately needs. Beat Alabama or Auburn and Michigan could find itself among the final top 10. It would also give that 10th win more meaning than if it came over an also-ran.
