Michigan Football: Breaking down 3 likely bowl scenarios for Wolverines
Michigan football won’t be playing in a New Year’s Six Bowl game this year, but there are some intriguing possibilities and here three scenarios.
It has been just a few days since Michigan football was handed another embarrassing defeat by the Ohio State Buckeyes.
It’s way too early to get over something like that. In fact, you don’t really get over. At least, Michigan football fans won’t be over the pain until the Wolverines finally end this wretched losing streak that is now at eight.
But it’s also time to look ahead and following the release of the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night, it’s worth examining where Michigan could be headed in the bowl season and who they might play.
The talk has long been that the Wolverines could go to the Gator or Holiday Bowl, maybe the Outback and now the Capital One Bowl is being mentioned. ESPN is projecting UM to the Capital One Bowl and they aren’t alone.
And after looking at what happened in the playoff rankings, you can see why, because it could mean a potential matchup with Alabama and what bowl organizer could realistically pass up on Michigan vs Alabama. It would be a dream matchup.
In a surprise, the Crimson Tide dropped to 12th in the rankings, behind Florida, Auburn and Penn State, all teams that are done playing. That means those teams should be ranked ahead of Alabama which means the Tide won’t be the New Year’s Six for the first time.
Beyond all that, this bowl matchup is the last chance No. 14 Michigan football will have to gain momentum heading into 2019 and playing a quality team in a quality game is important. So here is a breakdown of the three most likely bowl scenarios for the Wolverines.
