The Direction of Recruiting

It’s quite obvious that the talent gap is in OSU’s favor. With numerous five stars across the board, it is hard to compete with the elite of the crop for the Wolverines. Ohio State flat out recruits better time and time again. They know and have exactly what they need to be a consistent championship contender. They also know how to coach them up to their full potential as well. Those two factors are why they beat Michigan football every time out.

When Chase Young leaves, another five-star replaces him and the same for every other position. It’s a cycle that is not going to stop anytime soon. That means for Jim Harbaugh and company to narrow the gap, Michigan must do whatever it takes to get better recruits and hope that they outperform their own expectations.

Currently, OSU is in the top five classes of 2020, while Michigan is in the top ten. When three of your top players are considered Heisman frontrunners than that tells you all you need to know. When it comes down to it Ohio State is in rarefied air and Michigan is in the middle of the pack. The moment that Michigan can overcome the Buckeyes on a consistent basis on the recruiting trail might be the major turning point in this one-sided rivalry for Michigan.
