Michigan Football: 5 predictions for the Wolverines against Ohio State
Fields legs will be more effective than his arm
When it comes to Justin Fields, there is no question that the Ohio State quarterback has been sensational. He is completing 69 percent of his passes and has thrown 33 touchdown passes compared to just one interception.
Yes, the schedule has been a bit soft and Fields is surrounded by a very talented roster, but that’s still extraordinary. But against Michigan football, his legs could end up hurting the Wolverines more than his arm.
Last week, Penn State was able to apply some pressure and forced Fields into some mistakes that allowed the Nittany Lions back into the game. And when the PSU front seven was able to hem in J.K. Dobbins, Fields had some struggles, especially in long down-and-distance.
His answer though was to run and he did that effectively, scrambling for a number of first downs. That’s something Ohio State quarterbacks have been doing to Michigan for years. Whether it was Troy Smith, Terrelle Pryor, Braxton Miller or J.T. Barrett and Fields will do it too.
Michigan forced Barrett to use his legs a lot in 2016 and that was the saving grace until the started hitting on some passes late. This game, with some bad weather, will follow a similar path. Fields will be hit and pressured often, but his feet will still kill UM.
