Patterson will come to play

Getting another chance against Ohio State is one of the reasons Patterson returned for another season at Michigan football and now he will get the chance to secure his legacy by defeating the No. 1 team in the country.

Overall, his two years have been stellar. The Wolverines have a record of 19-5 under Patterson and at the Big House, he has yet to lose, defeating four ranked teams in Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa and Notre Dame. Those games were won by an average of 24 points.

Over the last two weeks, Patterson has taken his game to another level. He is throwing guys open and trusting Collins and Peoples-Jones to make plays down the field. Ronnie Bell has also emerged and even Giles Jackson, as well as Mike Sainristil, add another wrinkle to the offense.

There is no doubt this is the best offense Harbaugh has had against Ohio State and it was this game a year ago that forced him to make the move to get Josh Gattis. The transition didn’t go great to start, but it has clicked with Patterson, who I expect to be sharp Saturday.

The only question is whether it will be a valiant, Devin Gardner like performance in a close loss or something like we saw with John Navarre in 2003, which was the crowning achievement of a very solid career.

Patterson knows what is at stake and in his final home game, he will play well.
