Michigan Football: 3 things to be thankful for as Wolverines fans
The new OC is legit
One of the reasons Michigan football fans were so excited heading into 2019 was the hiring of Josh Gattis as the offensive coordinator.
Gattis has brought more of a spread look to the Wolverines and while there were bumps in the road early, as the season has gone on, you can see exactly why Jim Harbaugh worked so hard to get him.
The transformation of the offense and of Shea Patterson at quarterback has been something to behold. The Wolverines nearly rallied from a 21-0 deficit at Penn State and then turned around and crushed Notre Dame 45-14, rushing for more than 300 yards.
But just when it looked like Michigan might become a ground and pound offense, Patterson found his stride and over the last two games, which included a 44-10 win over Michigan State, the senior quarterback tossed nine touchdown passes compared to one interception. He also went over 300 yards passing in back-to-back games.
The result has been four consecutive wins by at least 25 points. It took a little longer than expected, but speed-in-space has arrived in Ann Arbor and with Gattis calling the plays and either Joe Milton or Dylan McCaffrey running the offense, the future is very bright.
