It’s going to be a big recruiting weekend for Michigan football as the Wolverines host Ohio State. Here’s the lowdown on two, four-star recruits visiting.

When Michigan football battles Ohio State, it’s always important for recruiting, especially in this day and age.

More than ever, teams are separated into the have’s and the have nots. Michigan is a really good program, arguably as good as any in the Big Ten outside of Ohio State.

Sure, the Wolverines haven’t won the league since Jim Harbaugh arrived in 2015 but he’s beaten every team in the conference but Ohio State at least once. Most of them like Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan State, he’s beaten twice. He’s 1-1 against Iowa.

Before Harbaugh came around, Michigan wasn’t consistently beating those teams and that’s been a huge step forward, one that has certainly helped with recruiting.

The Wolverines brought in the No. 1 class in the Big Ten last year and while it will take some work to get there again in 2020, Michigan football has some decent momentum.

But a win over the Buckeyes would only add to that. At the very least, Michigan needs to show it can compete, even against what many believe is one of the best Ohio State teams of all time.

And the fact is that two key highly-touted recruits will be in attendance ($) and those are two guys Michigan football should have a very good chance at landing. The visits are being reported by the Michigan Insider ($).

One is four-star defensive tackle Tywone Malone, who is from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey. He’s the No. 38 overall prospect in 2021 and the 6-foot-3, 300-pounder is the No. 6 defensive tackle.

That’s according to the 247 sports composite rankings. Of course, the state of New Jersey has been fertile ground for the Wolverines, but especially Bergen since Anthony Campanile’s brother is the head coach there.

Thus, it makes sense that another four-star prospect from Bergen, four-star corner Jaeden Gould, is also visiting Michigan football for the Ohio State game.

According to the 247 rankings, Gould, a 6-foot-2 corner in the 2022 class, is the No. 23 prospect nationally, as well as the sixth-ranked corner and the second-best player in New Jersey.

This is another prospect that Michigan should have a good shot with. Obviously, if Campanile took the Rutgers job, he would surely try to keep some of these talented players in-state, but that will be easier said than done.

And who would want that job right now anyway?

As far as Michigan is concerned, it gets a chance to host two solid recruits who have ties to the program. That means a good experience for the players and a win over Ohio State could do wonders.

It would be nice to keep the momentum moving into the early signing-period after all.
