Win out

First of all, if this happens, every MSU fan will be biting their tongue, remembering all of those snide comments they make as they left the Big House. “Wait until OSU comes to town.” or on Twitter: “Michigan fans are really getting hyped for beating the worst state team in 15 years. The annual Ohio State reckoning day cannot come any sooner.”

Yeah, that happened.

Back to business.

Should Michigan travel to Indiana and beat the dangerous 7-3 Hoosiers and then turn around and beat the undefeated Buckeyes, there are several things that can happen, playoff excluded.

As eight-point favorites over Indiana and the host of The Game, it’s possible, but unlikely they clear the schedule without another hiccup. But because it could happen, here’s the potential outcome.

In this scenario, LSU, Clemson, Oregon, and Alabama make up the top four teams and head to the College Football Playoff. Georgia is out with a loss in the SEC Championship, and because Alabama is Alabama, they slide in at the four spot.

With the playoff locked up, we now must finish out the top ten to see where Michigan finishes out the season. A 10-2 Wolverine team that beat a then No. 2 ranked Ohio State is going to at least make the top ten, let’s say No. 9.

At nine, Michigan has a chance at the Peach Bowl taking on a fellow two-loss Georgia (SEC runner up) or Florida – the latter of which will give them a shot at revenge.

There’s not a shot in the dark UM gets to the Rose Bowl no matter the outcome of the Ohio State game. The Buckeyes would have to lose at home on Saturday to Penn State, and then the Nittany Lions would need to turn around and lose to Rutgers, which – hopefully – will be the greatest upset in the history of college football.

The Peach Bowl is the best and worst-case scenario for a two-loss, conference championship-less Wolverine team.
