Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in blowout of Michigan State
Bell has another big game
Ronnie Bell may not be the most talented wide receiver on the Michigan football team, but there is no doubt that he has been the most productive, leading the team in receptions and yards.
On Saturday, Michigan State had no answer for Bell, who came up with a number of big-time catches, a few on third downs, which helped Michigan football convert 8-of-13.
Beyond that, he’s a beast after the catch. The former three-star recruit finished the game with nine receptions for 150 yards. It was the fifth time this season he went over 80 yards receiving and the sixth time he has had 71 yards or more.
Collins and Peoples-Jones certainly offer a different dynamic but Bell offers something the Wolverines have lacked in the past. He’s a quick-twitch slot guy, who can take short passes and bubble screens and turn them into big plays. Additionally, he’s dangerous over the middle and has been a revelation on third downs.
Also, he’s not going anywhere after this season, so even if Collins, Tarik Black and DPJ all leave for the NFL, Bell, arguably the most important receiver, will still be in Maize and Blue.
