Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in blowout of Michigan State
Defense does it again
The defense didn’t hold Michigan State to under 100 yards like it did in 2018, but it still put together a really impressive performance.
When it was all said and done, the Spartans were limited to just 220 yards of total offense and just 54 on the ground. Michigan State also averaged just 1.8 yards per carry, which allowed UM to outgain the Spartans on the ground.
The pass rush was solid again as it produced three sacks and some quarterback hits, yet maybe the most impressive thing was the play of the secondary. Ambry Thomas continued a stellar season with an interception and Lavert Hill came away with one too.
Those were huge plays in the game that helped bury the Spartans. It’s been great to see Michigan be so dominant in terms of yards allowed, however, the fact that the defense is regularly forcing turnovers is also really important.
Those are the kinds of plays that will be needed to win out and right now, the defense is showing no signs of slowing down.
