Michigan Football: Don’t bet on Chase Young being out vs Wolverines
Ohio State is making headlines again for off-field issues and there’s a chance star defensive end Chase Young may not play against Michigan football.
Ohio State isn’t known for having a squeaky clean program, that’s one big difference between Michigan football and the Buckeyes, who routinely find themselves in trouble.
And even though Urban Meyer has left, the stench he left from running a dirty program hasn’t as more bad headlines hit Friday with Ohio State star defensive end Chase Young getting suspended for what looks like accepting money improperly.
The Buckeyes announced the move when they put out their depth chart for Maryland and he wasn’t on it. The website Lettermen Row was the first to confirm the suspension with Ohio State, which is working with the NCAA on the matter. For now, it’s being called an indefinite suspension.
Young will miss the game Saturday against Maryland, but beyond that is anyone’s guess. But, since we know how the Buckeyes operate, It would be stunning if he wasn’t back on the field against Penn State and the season-ending showdown with Michigan football.
According to what Young posted on Twitter, the issue is over what he called a loan from a family friend in 2018. He claimed this was someone he met the summer before his freshman year, which seems to indicate, this person hasn’t been a family friend for long.
That also means he got this so-called loan right before he started playing football for the Buckeyes, which stinks to high heaven.
Young did state that he paid the loan back in full and that was hopeful to play again this season, which he surely will.
It’s hard to say if Young is telling the truth or not, but if Ohio State has been heavily involved in this process, which it surely has, there is certainly reason to doubt whether everything is on the up and up.
It feels a lot like Smith got caught taking money and this idea of calling it a loan, that he paid back, seems made up. At the very least, it feels concocted, almost like when Meyer wanted people to believe he didn’t discuss the whole Zach Smith incident with his wife.
Ohio State was not honest and forthright during the Smith scandal and the action it took against the coach was nothing but a sham, suspending Meyer for a few meaningless games during the beginning of the season when he should have been terminated.
So it wouldn’t be shocking to see Young miss time against Maryland and Rutgers before finding his way back to eligibility for the games that really matter.
We shall see, but when it comes to Ohio State and scandals, there is a good reason to be skeptical especially when the mandate is to win at all costs.
