This Michigan football team would’ve had more trouble with their practice squad on Saturday then the lack of competition they received from Maryland, at Maryland.

Coming into the 2019 season, the running back situation was bleak. No one had emerged as the clear starter, and the Michigan football team was handed down terrible news; they would have to press on without the services of Chris Evans.

There was some hope in the form of true freshman Zach Charbonnet, but there was no guarantee he would see any playing time by the beginning of the season after an offseason knee procedure knocked him out of the competition.

When game one arrived, the team found their savior in the backfield. Charbonnet went off for 90 yards averaging 11.3 yards-per-carry. Game two was equally as impressive, albeit a tad unnecessary, then two dormant contests. Rumor injuries swirled but were quickly shot down. Still, Charbonnet didn’t look like the man from the night of the Middle Tennessee State game.

Finally, a clear backup appeared in Hassan Haskins, until the horn from his hype train became louder than that of the star freshman. Two of the last four games, Hassan rushed for over 100 yards, and while he wasn’t able to match that total on Saturday, offensive coordinator Josh Gattis let everyone know who the starter is while also leaving a small window for those trailing him.

Rushing 13 times, Haskins led the team with Charbonnet in second place, rushing just eight times.

Here are some grades for the running backs, and everyone else.
