Workman-like day for running backs

While Michigan football didn’t establish the run as well as some had hoped, the Wolverines were able to create some explosive plays.

Tru Wilson, who has made an impact as a pass blocker and a runner in recent weeks, had another big play Saturday, ripping off a 39-yard run. He finished the day with 50 yards on five carries.

Hassan Haskins was also able to create some chunk plays and had a long run of 14 yards. In the passing game, only two plays of 20 or more yards were created, which gave Michigan three total for the game.

That’s not a great number. Neither is 155 yards on the ground, yet Maryland’s run defense was better than advertised and with the passing game unable to take advantage of Maryland’s pass defense, which was ranked last in the Big Ten coming in, it wasn’t a bad effort.

And the ground game is clearly still the bread and butter.
