Defense

Here are some statistical ranking for you, which will explain everything you need to know about the Maryland defense.

  • 116th for Passing Yards Allowed
  • 94th for Total Defense
  • 79th for Red Zone Defense
  • 56th for Rushing Defense

Those are garbage numbers that are not going to get you a win over any Power Five school not named Rutgers. Although, in the win against Syracuse – a team whose wins come over Liberty, Holy Cross, and Western Michigan – the defense came through, limiting the Orangemen to a meager 20 points, four points fewer than Syracuse was able to conjure up playing opposite Liberty.

Linebacker Ayinde Eley is the tackle leader with 61, followed by Antoine Brooks with 52. The one statistic that’s positive for Locksley’s men is they average almost one interception per game, that and Ohio State transfer, and linebacker Keandre Jones has accumulated six sacks.

If you’re wondering what kinds of numbers this Wolverine team should manage Saturday, look no further than Temple. In the Owls victory over the Terrapins, they rushed for 150 yards and totaled 427 yards offensively. Even Rutgers rushed for 151 while getting blown out 48-7.

Anything less than 150 yards on the ground is a fail facing the dreadful defensive scheme that Brady Hoke’s older brother puts together every weekend.
