Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in Wolverines rout of Notre Dame
The defense is legit
Michigan football still has a lot to prove on defense, especially with Ohio State looming on the schedule, but there is no denying that this group is really good, particularly at the Big House.
In the last two games at home against Iowa and Notre Dame, the defense has been suffocating. In the first seven quarters of those games, against two ranked teams, one in the top 10, Michigan allowed exactly three points. In the two games combined the total was 17. That’s total domination.
Even last week, Penn State failed to get 300 yards and just by looking at the team stats, you would have thought UM won. That was a missed opportunity, but in the second half, outside one big mistake, the defense shutout Penn State, on the road.
As bad as things looked against Wisconsin, this unit has turned the corner and a big part of that is Cam McGrone, who has played like an All-Big Ten defender. Daxton Hill has also made an impact and guys like Aidan Hutchinson continue to get better and better. Luiji Vilain even made an appearance with three tackles, a sack and a TFL.
We will see if these guys can play like this during the final four games, yet right now, this defense looks as good as any in the Big Ten.
