Running game is the Wolverines identity

The offense has been a huge topic of conversation throughout the season and early on in the year, Michigan football just looked like a team that didn’t know what it wanted to do.

You can see the temptation to try and throw the ball all over the place with Patterson, who is better than most give him credit for, especially when he’s on, as well as a slew of really good receivers such as Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins, Ronnie Bell and Tarik Black.

But last night proved again that the identity of this offense is the running game. Charbonnet might actually be the most effective player on this offense and Haskins has been an absolute revelation. He’s made Christian Turner, a solid back in his own right, an afterthought.

Both backs are 6-foot or taller and are explosive. Haskins ripped off a 49-yard run last season and Charbonnet also had an explosive run. People can try to discount it all they want, but this Notre Dame team nearly beat Georgia on the road and last night, Michigan football took it behind the woodshed.

Thanks to a running game that looks dominant. So forget speed-in-space. It’s time to get back to ground-and-pound.
