Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in Wolverines rout of Notre Dame
O-line is hitting its stride
Before the season, there was a lot of hype surrounding Michigan’s offensive line and with four of the five starters returning, it was hard not to be excited.
Yet, early in the season, it didn’t quite meet expectations and part of that was due to injuries, not only to Jon Runyan but also to Andrew Stueber. It forced some younger guys to play and against Wisconsin, it was ugly.
But Saturday against Notre Dame, the offensive line was damn-near perfect. On 57 carries, Michigan football averaged 5.3 yards per attempt. Four different players, Zach Charbonnet, Hassan Haskins, Tru Wilson and Patterson notched a run of at least 20 yards.
Haskins went over 100 for the second time this season and ripped off a 49-yard run, showing that the Wolverines have a true 1-2 punch. But more on that in a second.
By allowing two just sacks and completely bullying a stout defensive front, the offensive line showed that despite some struggles, they have reached that elite status.
