Michigan Football: 3 key takeaways from domination of Notre Dame
By Nick Popio
Michigan football completely clobbered the Irish on a national stage for a decisive win for Jim Harbaugh.
Last night Michigan football carried over the momentum from the Penn State affair and took out its frustrations on Notre Dame.
After Daxton Hill recovered the punt fumble from the first series, the Wolverines never looked back. They steamrolled through an Irish squad that didn’t want to be there. It was a satisfying moment to behold for Michigan in this storied rivalry that won’t soon be forgotten.
Shea Patterson didn’t even need to be effective in this one. He coughed up the ball a few times which didn’t result in any turnovers, but besides that he was workmanlike. He forged his offense to several scoring drives, all while hitting the strides on that side of the ball. If Patterson can sustain his unit to play at this level, then the Wolverines will be a dangerous threat moving onward.
Don Brown’s defense had Ian Book shook from the word go. Book mustered a lousy 8-25 and was eventually benched probably later than he should have been. The Irish were flustered mentally because of Brown’s blitz packages. They finally broke the 100-yard mark for total yardage in the fourth quarter, while going 3-15 on third downs.
The maize and blue can celebrate this for years to come. As it stands these two won’t meet up again till 2033. This historic rivalry should be played much sooner than that and maybe they will realize it and schedule a matchup before that, but until then Michigan has the upper hand to brag about.
