Michigan Football: 5 things we learned from loss at Penn State
Michigan’s Big Ten hopes on life support
Like it or not, beating Penn State was a must for the Wolverines if they were going to stay alive in the Big Ten title race and now, their hopes in the East are on life support.
Not only would Michigan football need Ohio State to lose a game before the season-ending showdown, but Penn State would also have to lose at least twice, maybe three times, because there is no guarantee UM would win a three-way tiebreaker if it was 7-2 along with Ohio State and Penn State.
That’s the best chance Michigan has right now. But first, the Wolverines need to win a big game and that chance comes Saturday, at home, against Notre Dame. If they win that game, it will be a start.
A 10-2 record and winning out is the best this team can do. It might not be enough to make it to Indianapolis, but it would certainly leave a much better taste in the mouth of fans and it will allow guys like Patterson to leave the program as a winner.
Five straight wins would mean beating Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Yes, it seems unlikely, but it’s the best-case scenario and again, the first goal needs to be knocking off an elite team and that starts Saturday with the Fighting Irish.
