Michigan basketball will find out if it has done enough to land five-star recruit Isaiah Todd in three days but over the weekend, he talked Wolverines.

It’s hard to keep an eye on hoops recruiting during football season, however, this week is a big one for Michigan basketball in its pursuit of 2020 five-star Isaiah Todd.

Ever since Todd announced that he was trimmed his final list down to two teams, Michigan basketball and Kansas, the Wolverines have been the presumed favorite.

Part of that probably has to do with the fact that Kansas was just hit with violations. As a result, many college basketball experts at 247 sports are projecting Todd to the Wolverines, who now hold 67 percent of his crystal balls.

While that may be a very good sign, it’s far from a guarantee that Todd is going to choose the Wolverines. Over the weekend, the No. 12 player in the 2020 class and the second-ranked power forward, who would be the highest-ranked Michigan basketball commit in basically two decades, caught up with 247 sports, where he talked about UM and Kansas.

“I love Coach Bill Self, he has a lot of experience, he always goes to the Tournament, I love the facilities, when I went on my visit it felt good,” Todd said in an interview with Evan Daniels. “He wants me to come in and be a one-and-done and wants me to score. That’s what he told me and he wants to win a lot.”

It’s hard to get the tenor of the interview, but it seems as though Todd is still pretty fond of Kansas and who knows what seeing Snoop Dog there did for his recruitment. Some thought it was bad optics, but those people probably didn’t ask any 18-year olds what they thought.

On the other hand, Todd also had good things to say about Howard. Juwan played power forward at Michigan and in the NBA and his ability to develop bigs could help in this fight with Kansas.

Here’s what Todd told Evans about Michigan basketball:

"“I love Coach Juwan Howard. He played my position in the League, he also coached in the League, I love the coaching staff and I feel like that school would be awesome too. I will be his first recruiting class so I still got to see how they play this season.”"

The one thing that caught my eye in that statement was I still have to see how they play this season. That seems odd since Todd is committing in three days but the season doesn’t start until next month.

Certainly, Todd likely watched Michigan practice and got an understanding of the scheme, plus Howard has talked about position-less basketball which would be perfect for a skilled 6-foot-10 forward like Todd.

When it comes to these kids, it’s hard to know what to believe. Right now, Michigan basketball fans should be optimistic, but until pen hits the paper and the dotted line is signed, nothing is guaranteed.
