Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from Wolverines win over Illinois
By Nick Popio
Offensive Line Near Full Strength
For arguably the first time this season the big boys up front had their best outing. They basically manhandled the Illini besides a couple of scrimmage throwdowns in the third quarter. They also gave Patterson a clean pocket to throw, but Patterson couldn’t take advantage. Luckily the ground game carried the way with Haskins and Charbonnet garnering 100 yard plus efforts.
Overall, Michigan football gained close to 500 yards of total offense in this one and found the endzone six times. That is a pat on the back type of accomplishment for a line that has been grinding for a performance like that all year. Besides the third quarter, all five starters can hang their respective hats on this one and will attempt to ride the momentum over to Penn State.
If Michigan is going to be successful in the coming weeks, then it will need the offensive line to grow like this. Going into an environment like State College at night is a disaster just waiting to happen. So winning the line of scrimmage will be beyond paramount for the Wolverines to do so.
