Michigan Football: 5 things we learned about Wolverines against Iowa
Michigan is still alive, for now
Everyone knew that this was a must-win game for Michigan football, especially if the Wolverines want to stay in Big Ten title contention and that made the 10-3 triumph all the more satisfying.
The Wolverines still have zero margin for error with Ohio State killing people. The Buckeyes beat Michigan State 34-10 Saturday night and it looks less and less likely that someone from the Big Ten East can dethrone them.
But at the very least, Michigan football kept its hopes alive. Certainly, it will need to keep winning and huge tests loom against Penn State and Notre Dame, so the kinks, particularly on offense, have to be worked out soon.
Whether that’s an actual possibility remains to be seen. There were flashes Saturday, such as the second drive and even the drive in the fourth quarter that ended with a field goal. Iowa does deserve credit for being a great defensive team, but still, 10 points won’t cut it.
The defense proved its still capable of carrying the team to a win, now we have to learn if the offense is capable of holding its weight because, through the first five games, it has held this team back and the time to fix it, is running out.
