The defense has rebounded from Wisconsin

Following the loss to Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago, there were a ton of questions about the defense, such as could it stand up against the run, especially against a team like Iowa?

The answer was yes. Obviously, the Hawkeyes don’t have a running back like Jonathan Taylor or anything, but their offensive line is stout and their quarterback is one of the best in the Big Ten.

Yet, in just about every way, the defense made Iowa look foolish. The Hawkeyes ran the ball 30 times for one yard and were held under 300 yards and out of the end zone. Stanley was also constantly pressured and that seemed to rattle the veteran.

I have been very critical of Don Brown and I was after the Wisconsin game, but he has redeemed himself a little with that performance. He didn’t stick solely to his man-to-man coverages and he mixed in some zone stuff with a lot of different pressures.

The best thing though was the way the defensive front led by Kwity Paye, Josh Uche, Aidan Hutchinson and Mike Danna. That was the key but it remains to be seen if the Wolverines are good enough to shut down an elite offense.
