Michigan Football: 5 things we learned about Wolverines against Iowa
Michigan football was able to squeak out a victory over Iowa Saturday thanks to its dominant defense, but what did we learn in the 10-3 win?
A win is a win, is what people always say and for Michigan football and its win over Iowa Saturday, that was a perfect sentiment.
There were a lot of great things that happened in the battle between the 14th-ranked Hawkeyes and the 19th-ranked Wolverines and even though UM had to cling to a seven-point lead for basically the entire second half, the defense had things under control.
It’s been a while since Michigan’s defense rose up and simply willed the Wolverines to victory, but that’s what happened Saturday when the offense looked as inept as ever.
As the offense struggled to move the ball and execute when it mattered most, the defense, time and time again, found a way to make a play or get a stop.
When it was all said and done, Michigan football forced four turnovers and registered eight sacks in addition to drawing a ton of holding penalties.
Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley literally spent the afternoon running for his life. The pass rush was dominant and the secondary was even better as Josh Metellus, Lavert Hill, Ambry Thomas, Vincent Gray and Daxton Hill all stepped up as did Cam McGrone, who is becoming a star.
Ultimately, it’s hard to complain about a win over the No. 14 team in the country, which did happen to be undefeated. It was a good win but there are still some big questions marks surrounding this team. Here’s what we learned.
