Michigan Football: 3 Wolverines that need to see their roles increased
Giles Jackson
While it’s easier to find players more snaps on the defensive side of the ball, where guys rotate in and out a little more freely, one player on offense that needs a bigger role is freshman receiver, Giles Jackson.
Jackson is a 5-foot-10 receiver that offers something a little different than the rest of Michigan football’s wide receivers. Obviously, Ronnie Bell who leads the team in yards and receptions has been exceptional in the slot.
But even he doesn’t have the same versatility that Jackson does, because of his background as an all-purpose back in high school. While handing the ball to Jackson hasn’t paid off yet, even though it has been done just a couple of times, his touchdown reception against Rutgers offered a glimpse of his potential.
Whether it’s returning kicks, taking handoffs or catching passes, Jackson is electric and needs to see the football at least a few times per game.
When you think of speed-in-space, Jackson is exactly the kind of guy that comes to mind and that’s why Josh Gattis has to find more ways to get him involved in the offense.
