Michigan Football: 3 Wolverines that need to see their roles increased
Michigan football defeated Rutgers Saturday and looked impressive doing it, especially with some young players standing out. Here are three in particular.
While beating Rutgers isn’t necessarily the kind of win that turns around a season, it was exactly what Michigan football needed to find some momentum.
The Wolverines were sharp on both sides of the ball. The offense racked up nearly 500 yards and scored 52 points. They also turned it over just once and that was a Shea Patterson interception.
Defensively, the unit flew around and played with the kind of swagger we haven’t really seen so far this season. Again, it was Rutgers, so people aren’t getting too excited, but the truth is, there are some things to be excited about.
One of the best things about Saturday was that some young guys got a chance, mostly because of some injuries. Cameron McGrone started at inside linebacker and Daxton Hill got some time in the secondary in sub-packages.
There were others too that stood out. Giles Jackson and Erick All made some contributions on offense, while Joe Milton also showed that he’s made progress. He ran for a touchdown and threw another to Jackson that could be a glimpse into the future.
The fact that some of Michigan football’s young and talented players haven’t seen the field has been a question through the first few weeks, but it looks like the coaching staff is finally giving those guys a chance.
Now, some of them need more chances and here’s a look at three that can make a significant impact.
