Patterson isn’t the guy

I’ll admit that I have been a staunch defender of Shea Patterson. But after another dismal performance on a big stage against Wisconsin, it’s time to cut bait.

It’s possible that Michigan football can still win games with Patterson. The Wolverines won 10 with him as the starting quarterback a year ago. He’s not awful. He’s not terrible, he just isn’t elite and he will never win a championship or beat Ohio State.

On the first scoring drive everyone wants to walk about the Ben Mason fumble, well what about the touchdown pass Patterson overthrew the play before. Or maybe if he makes a better throw to Ronnie Bell, he won’t have to dive for the ball and watch a great catch get overturned.

At the half, he was 4-of-12 with an interception after proclaiming the team would make a statement.

The fumbles continued and at this point, he has become a turnover machine. The offense has nine total. Obviously, it might not matter if Shea is ready or not because if Dylan McCaffrey is out a few weeks, Patterson might still be the best option.

But he’s not the savior we all expected him to be. There was a time last year when it seemed true, however, it’s just not.
