Michigan Football: Wolverines in the NFL, Week Two
By Jacob Shames
While one legend did the same thing he’s done for 20 years, another potential superstar was just getting started.
Tom Brady, quarterback, New England Patriots — There was almost zero doubt that the Patriots would beat the hapless Dolphins in Week 2. Brady and company eliminated the rest of it, just to be careful.
Brady didn’t exactly come out firing on Sunday, but that’s because he didn’t need to. He completed 20 of his 28 passes for 264 yards and scores to Antonio Brown and James White, looking as cool and methodical as ever. He even took it into the end zone himself on one of his classic, nigh-unstoppable quarterback sneaks.
A 43-0 win over Miami doesn’t prove much of anything, but it’s probably wise to assume the six-time champion still has it until proven otherwise.
Devin Bush, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers — The Steelers lost not only their Week 2 tussle with Seattle, 28-26, but lost franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the season. At least they might have a cornerstone linebacker.
A week after putting up a team-leading 11 tackles against New England, Bush had another solid game Sunday that showed off his potential. While he only made seven tackles against the Seahawks, three of them solo, he nearly took a fourth-quarter fumble to the house.
Bush made plenty of mistakes Sunday, including getting beaten by tight end Will Dissly on a seam for a touchdown, but his speed and athleticism in the middle of Pittsburgh’s defense is apparent anyway.
