Figure out what’s up at quarterback

The calls for McCaffrey to replace Patterson grew louder last week as Patterson fumbled the ball away twice and also missed on throws that could have changed the game.

Obviously, no player is going to be perfect. Mistakes will be made and throws will be missed. But with Patterson, it just seems to happen too often. He did the same things against Notre Dame, Ohio State and Florida last season.

Gattis admitted that Patterson was hurt but said it shouldn’t impact his decision making. Then why didn’t he ever keep the ball on the zone read when it appeared to be wide open? The run-pass option doesn’t work if the QB never keeps it.

If Patterson isn’t healthy enough to run the ball, he shouldn’t be in the game. Regardless, the production at quarterback hasn’t been and won’t be good enough if it doesn’t improve.

Patterson has shown he’s capable of playing like an elite quarterback yet he has to get more consistent. The overthrows, fumbles and bad decisions all need to stop. It’s safe to say we are all sick of the hype, starting with the Badgers, Shea needs to step up or have a seat because if the quarterback play doesn’t improve, a Big Ten title is nothing but a pipe dream.
