Michigan basketball hosted four-star recruit, Lance Ware, this past weekend but after he was visited by John Calipari, he seems headed to Kentucky.

Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard has been working hard on the recruiting trail and has hosted a slew of official visits over the past two weeks.

One of the recruits that paid a visit to Ann Arbor, this past weekend, in fact, was four-star power Lance Ware, who is one of the top big men in the 2020 class. He’s ranked fifth at his position according to 247 sports and is also the No. 1 prospect in the state of New Jersey.

Ware visited Michigan basketball along with some other prospects this weekend and got a chance to watch the football team take on Army. The 6-foot-9 forward also visited Ohio State recently and was scheduled to take trips to Providence and Miami this month.

However, that all changed Thursday as Adam Finkelstein reported that Ware was going to make his announcement Thursday.

This news is significant because it comes just one day after Kentucky head coach John Calipari visited Ware at home. Calipari has long been known for his recruiting and his ability to sell kids on his vision and it appears to have worked on Ware.

Of course, this isn’t a huge surprise. Michigan basketball was and is viewed as one of the teams in the mix for Ware and that hasn’t changed, but it doesn’t seem like Howard and the Wolverines did enough to sway Ware from joining the Wildcats.

Obviously, Kentucky has a lot to sell. Not only is it one of the most successful programs in college basketball year in and year out, but Calipari has also turned out pro-ready prospects at an incredible rate.

Michigan basketball has also sent its fair share of guys to the NBA, however, only Ignas Brazdeikis was a one-and-done. The others were recruited and developed by John Beilein, who is now in the NBA coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It’s possible that Ware has another school in mind, yet with the timing and the fact that eight of his nine crystal ball projections on 247 sports are with the Wildcats, it feels like a sure thing, especially with the timing of his announcement.

Ultimately, Ware was receptive to Howard and Michigan, but he will be yet another top target to spurn the Wolverines for someone else.
