Michigan Football: 3 breakout candidates for Wolverines in 2019
By Nick Popio
Now that gameday is furiously approaching for Michigan football, here are some unexpected names that will open eyes in the 2019 season for Wolverines.
Opening night 2019 for Michigan football at the Big House will be a historic evening for so many reasons. The first-ever season opener under the lights will produce new players, coaches, an uptempo offense, and a first-time opponent. The atmosphere will be palpable and a scene that won’t soon be forgotten.
With the 140th campaign for the program kicking off, it paves the way for a few of those highly touted non-household names to make their own history as well. A handful of their impacts will be felt instantaneously and eventually can earn the way to becoming well-known for what they accomplish on the field.
Last year a couple of relative unknowns argued their case for action by making something happen when the ball was around them. Offensively Tru Wilson and Ronnie Bell burst onto the screen with their own respectable outings. On defense, Josh Uche really became a force as a third-down rush specialist. While Jake Moody stepped up in the kicking game and turned in a rather solid last few weeks.
It certainly means that breakout game changers can come from anywhere and this season will be no different. All three phases will garner the attention for unanticipated impacts. No matter the shoes that have to be filled at any position in a moment’s notice and this is already occurring at critical spots on a squad that has the lofty goals to make up for those who’ve graduated or injured.
