Christian Turner

There is one name that seems to be forgotten at running back for Michigan football and that’s Christian Turner. Even when Harbaugh praised him the other day, it didn’t get the attention that his statement about Zach Charbonnet did.

Yet, even though Charbonnet is primed for a big freshman season, Turner will be counted on too, maybe even more than some people expect.

Tru Wilson is going to be the starter if Harbaugh is to be believed and I take him at his word, at least to start the season. Wilson is the most complete back. He is a solid runner and is excellent in pass protection, which makes him a good candidate to work in the no-huddle.

Charbonnet has been gaining momentum and it wouldn’t be shocking if he assumed the starting job at some point in the season. Even if that happens, Wilson will still have a role due to his pass protection but also, Turner will be counted on for depth and if there is an injury, he could be the primary ball carrier.

Turner has developed well the past two seasons and that’s good because Michigan needs him to produce in 2019. It’s hard to get through a season with just two running backs and for the Wolverines, Turner, Charbonnet and Wilson all need to play well.
