Michigan football is now in the midst of fall camp, which puts recruiting on the backburner a bit, but here is one elite corner from 2022 you need to know.

A lot of Michigan football fans have called for Don Brown to adjust his scheme after last season’s 62-point debacle at the hands of Ohio State.

To his credit, Brown said he won’t change his ways. Sure, he will make some adjustments, but he believes in man coverage, just as he believes in applying pressure on the quarterback.

So as long as Brown as the defensive coordinator of Michigan football, defensive backs that have man-to-man cover skills are going to be a priority. And isn’t adding better players to the backend the best way to improve the Wolverines pass defense?

Finding betters players is probably easier than trying to re-invent a scheme designed to stop the run-pass option, because right now, it’s difficult to do, especially if you can’t man up. That’s where someone like Domani Jackson comes in the picture.

If you don’t know Jackson, I wouldn’t blame you. He’s a prospect in the 2022 class and a very good one at that, ranking first in the state of California and 10th overall according to the 247 sports rankings.

The 6-foot-1 corner from Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California, has already expressed an interest in visiting Michigan football and in an interview with The Michigan Insider ($), his family talked about their affection for the Wolverines. Here is what Jackson’s father told Brice Marich:

"“We are die hard Michigan fans. My wife and I are actually from Youngstown, Ohio. I grew up a Michigan fan and she’s an Ohio State fan. Domani took a love to the Wolverines with me. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2015. Domani was born on Camp Pendleton. We have lived in California, State College, Pa., Hawaii and back to California. I got a good job after retiring and we like it here in California, so Domani grew up as a military dependent.”"

Obviously, it never hurts when a recruit grows up as a fan of your program. It doesn’t hurt when his father is a fan too. However, that doesn’t mean Michigan football is going to land Jackson. It could, but it won’t be that simple.

His offer list is quite long and in addition to the Wolverines, it also includes Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Maryland, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and San Diego State. Plus the team that is currently the favorite, USC.

As of now, Steve Wiltfong, a top recruiting expert at 247 sports, has already put in a crystal ball projecting Jackson to wind up with the Trojans. But it’s early in the process and at the very least, Jackson’s father told 247 sports his son would visit Ann Arbor.

That means there is at least a chance and with all the corners Michigan football has sent to the NFL under Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines could make a convincing case to Jackson and his parents.
