Nolan Rumler

One reason Michigan football fans should be excited about the offense in 2019 and the team’s hopes, in general, is an offensive line that could be the best in the Big Ten.

After struggling upfront, especially in 2017, Michigan made some dramatic improvements last season and improved in just about every way imaginable. And with four starters returning, who each earned some sort of All-Big Ten recognition, it should be a solid group again.

That should also make it difficult for any of the freshmen offensive linemen to crack the lineup, but one who could work his way into the mix on the two-deep is guard Nolan Rumler.

Michigan brought in four guys that rank as a four-star on the offensive line and Rumler is one of those. He was second-ranked behind only Trente Jones in terms of freshmen linemen and with a need at guard, he could be the backup that sees action in more than four games.

The Wolverines will likely have two starting jobs open next year after Ben Bredeson and Michael Onwenu graduate and if Rumler can establish himself inside as a No. 2, it would be a natural ascension to a starting job in 2020.

According to Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider ($), he is one guy that staff believes in when it comes to playing right away in 2019. He will likely play more than four games and burn his redshirt.
