Slot Receiver

With a star-studded trio of wideouts, not much has been said about the slot role in a new speed-in-space offense that can be a focal point if so desired. There are three legitimate names that can emerge to secure the starting gig. They include Ronnie Bell, Mike Sainristil, and Giles Jackson.

Bell has the ability to start there because he fits the mold of a slot more than an outside guy. Although he didn’t touch the ball enough, he did make an impact that was impossible to deny. He saw action in every contest and the same will be expected in 2019 because of his underutilized talent.

Sainristil made impressions early in the spring game. He caught a pass with the first team that was considered a touchdown. The only concern that could hold him back is the players ahead of him. Coach Harbaugh has shown to trust in freshmen before and has sung his praises already. All signs point to the youngster seeing the field right away.

Jackson is an unknown factor in this equation. He may see limited time based on past history at receiver. His high school numbers are worthy of note because he accumulated so many for such a small stature. I’d imagine that most inside of Schembechler Hall wouldn’t be surprised if he finds the ball in his hands when the non-Big Ten season begins.
