Michigan Football: 5 bold predictions for Wolverines in fall camp
Daxton Hill lives up to the hype
When it comes to incoming freshman, no one is getting more hype or attention than five-star defensive back Daxton Hill.
Hill was the top safety in the 2019 recruiting class and one of the top defenders in the country. He’s 6-feet tall and has blazing speed, running a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash.
There has been a lot of talk about where Hill would play this season. Some have said safety, while others have suggested nickel corner would be the best fit. Hill has solid man coverage skills but his speed would best served on the backend of the defense.
Hill can be an eraser of sorts. His job will be helping to limit big plays down the field in both the running game and the passing game and in that role, he should thrive. Josh Metellus will be the other starting safety and having Hill play next to him would be perfect.
As the season goes on, it’s possible that Hill starts playing some snaps in the slot, where could be blitz and help even more with run support. He has been learning the safety position over the summer and even though he may not open as the No. 1 guy, it won’t be long until he is the starter.
This defense desperately needed more speed, but more importantly, it needs more impact plays and as the season goes on, Hill will deliver those for a unit that will be even better than expected.
