Zach Charbonnet

These players aren’t ranked by their importance but there is no question that Zach Charbonnet is going to be a critical player for the Wolverines this season.

Charbonnet, the top offensive recruit for Michigan football in 2019, is important for a couple of reasons. One, he can push Tru Wilson and Christian Turner for the starting job, in addition to providing key depth. Including Charbonnet, UM will have just three scholarship backs.

The fourth-ranked running back in his class stands 6-foot-2 and is around 220 pounds. He is a tough runner that also has home-run ability. Harbaugh praised his work in the weight room at Big Ten Media Days and if he remains healthy through fall camp, he should push Wilson for the job.

Many believe that Charbonnet is the best running back that Harbaugh has recruited to Michigan and if he can live up to the hype, it could give the Wolverines the kind of dynamic runner that has been missing from their offense. Higdon was great. But he wasn’t a superstar.

Charbonnet could be and if he can make an immediate impact this season the offense will be much better. And with contributions from all five guys on this list, Michigan football will be too.
