Daxton Hill

Every Michigan football has to be excited about Daxton Hill, the cornerstone of the Wolverines 2019 class. For a short time, he flipped to Alabama and it seemed like the Wolverines would miss out on another impact player.

However, Harbaugh and company were able to reel in the five-star and thankfully so, because the defensive back is going to be a game-changer on this defense.

In Chicago last week, Jim Harbaugh said he wanted to see Hill start out at safety, the position he is listed at. Yet, he also played corner in high school and with his 4.3 speed, he is a possibility at either spot.

That has led some to think his best fit may be playing the nickel. While I agree with that could eventually be his best position, Michigan should be careful about moving him around too much too early. What the defense needs is an eraser — someone who can make up for mistakes both in the open field and in coverage, helping to limit big plays.

Hill has the speed to do that. He is an outstanding tackler and has great ball instincts. The lack of speed on the backend of the defense killed UM against teams like Ohio State and Florida. So having Hill back there could make a huge difference and he feels like a guy that will make an early impact.
