Michigan Basketball: Evaluating Wolverines chances with 5-stars in 2020
Michigan basketball has made the final list for a slew of five-star prospects and we take a look at the Wolverines chances with each recruit.
It has been really interesting to watch the way Juwan Howard has attacked recruiting for Michigan basketball and after his first couple months on the job, it’s clear the Wolverines aren’t afraid to go after five-star prospects.
Howard has an offer list that is well into double figures for 2020 and five of those offers have gone out to elite recruits such as five-stars Walker Kessler, Nimari Burnett, Joshua Christopher, Jaden Springer and Jalen Suggs,
While Howard has shown an interest in some of the highest-ranked prospects in 2020, as he should with his name recognition and Michigan basketball’s, thanks to an incredible seven-year run from John Beilein that included two trips the national championship, five to the Sweet 16, a Big Ten regular-season title and two Big Ten tournament championships.
After going to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive and seeing a player get picked in the first round of the NBA draft for the fourth straight year, it’s clear that the Wolverines are an elite program.
The reception Howard has gotten on the recruiting trail further reflects that. His NBA background has played well with recruits, along with his history as a member of the Fab Five. Even if the players don’t know, many have seen the documentary. That also allows Howard to relate, as he was a big-time recruit himself.
But even though many of these elite players have shown Michigan some interest, there is a big difference between making the top five and getting a commitment. So with each of the Wolverines five-star offers, we evaluate their chances of actually getting pen to paper.
