Michigan Basketball: 5 Incredibly talented targets for 2020 hoops
Michigan Basketball has gone from sparingly targeting five-star ballers to almost solely handing out offers and looks to the best in the business. Here’s a look at five of those guys that could change the game for Juwan Howard.
Franz Wagner is exactly Juwan Howard needed for 2019 Michigan basketball. A post-up shooter with a three-point shot. He can drive and he can play D – all much-needed attributes for the upcoming season.
“He reminds me a lot of a more skilled, and better defensively, Duncan Robinson,” said current basketball analyst Tim McCormick and former Michigan standout. “(Wagner) has a lot more upside. He’s 6-7, 6-8, and he may have grown since last summer when I saw him. But he really has a quick release. You can’t leave him. He just seems college ready. (He’s a) different player than Brazdeikis. (Wagner is a) better shooter, but not as strong, and not as creative off the dribble, so he may not have the immediate impact of being an All Big 10 player like Iggy. But I do think he is college ready. He has been mentored really well.”
Franz and fellow Michigan commit Cole Bajema – who is ranked higher than Wagner according to 247sports – are an astonishing duo of talent for the Wolverines and will likely see early playing time if not starting right away. But that doesn’t answer the question of what is Michigan going to do going forward?
They have a commitment from Zeb Jackson (four-star and No. 2 out of Ohio) although, as you can see from the recent news, Juwan is hungry. Hungry for big men, five-star caliber guys while also recently attracting a lot of talent all over the board. While he remains strong on the trail of those top 50 guys, he’s also reaching out to the three and four-star athletes.
Let’s take a look at five of those targets that could realistically dawn a Wolverine uniform in 2020.
