Ronnie Bell

When it comes to the new offensive system being implemented by Josh Gattis, one name that doesn’t get mentioned enough is that of rising sophomore Ronnie Bell.

If Gattis and the Wolverines end up running a lot more spread sets and using a no-huddle offense, that should mean more plays overall, more pass attempts and more opportunities for each wide receiver in the offense, including Bell, who should play a bigger role than he did in 2018.

Bell finished his freshman campaign with eight receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns with one coming against Maryland and another against Nebraska. Much of the hype heading into the season is surrounding guys like Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins and Tarik Black, which is understandable.

However, another name to watch is freshman Mike Sainristil. He blew up in the spring and that caused many to forget about Bell, who should have a key role in the slot this season. He’s quick, dynamic after the catch and has a good rapport with Shea Patterson.

As Alabama showed last season with five guys going over 600 yards receiving, a bunch of wide receivers can thrive in the offense Gattis is bringing to Michigan football and one of the wideouts that will benefit most is Bell.
