5-star combo guard from Chicago

It’s been a while since Michigan basketball has landed a five-star prospect and when it comes to the 2020 class, combo guard Nimari Burnett of Chicago might offer the Wolverines one of their best opportunities.

For starters, Howard is from Chicago and has deep connections there. Beyond that, according to 247 sports, Burnett and Howard have a relationship that dates back to when the 2020 guard when eight years old. Here’s what he told 247 sports about Howard’s impact:

"“(Howard’s presence) means a lot. They are currently higher on my list than they were before. Based off of the relationship we have already they are in a better position.”"

In terms of fit, the Wolverines could use a scoring guard to pair with Zeb Jackson. Both players have the ability to handle the ball and shoot the 3-pointers. Burnett may be a little more natural playing off the ball, but with Zavier Simpson graduating, and a need for perimeter shooting already in the backcourt, Burnett would be a perfect fit.

And by landing a five-star recruit in his first class, it would be a tremendous win for Howard. Burnett listed Michigan alongside UCLA, Arizona, Alabama, Illinois and Marquette as other contenders for the 6-foot-3 guard that ranks 23rd nationally and fifth at his position.
