QB: Denard Robinson

Stats (2009-12): 427-747 (57.2%), 6,250 passing yards, 49 TD, 39 INT, 723 carries, 4,495 rushing yards (6.2 AVG), 42 TD

A two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, Robinson was named both a first-team All-American and the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 2010.

Affectionately known as “Shoelace,” Robinson was electric from the very beginning. He rushed for a 43-yard touchdown on the very first snap of his collegiate career in 2009 vs. Western Michigan and never looked back.

Finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy balloting in 2010, Robinson produced 502 yards of total offense in a win over Notre Dame in South Bend (244 passing, 258 rushing). He holds the top-two seasons of total offense in Michigan football history with 4,272 yards in 2010 and 3,348 yards in 2011.

He wasn’t the best passer Michigan has ever had, but his big-play ability was unmatched. At the time of his graduation, Robinson’s 4,495 rushing yards were the most in NCAA history for a quarterback.

Robinson also holds the distinction of being the last Michigan quarterback to defeat Ohio State, a feat he accomplished on November 26, 2011. He also led Michigan to a Sugar Bowl victory.

It will be a long time before some of Shoelace’s records are touched.

Honorable mention: Shea Patterson (2018-present)
