Michigan football’s 2021 commit J.J. McCarthy is a five-star recruit and could become one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Here are three reasons why you should believe that.

Michigan football commit, J.J. McCarthy, is a five-star recruit from La Grange Park, IL, where he plays football at Nazareth High School. According to 247Sports, J.J. is the No. 1 football player out of Illinois, the No. 2 Pro-style QB, and 11th in the country for the 2021 class.

Standing at 6-foot-2-inches as a sophomore, McCarthy already has the size for college ball and his verified forty and shuttle times are off-the-charts for someone at his age (4.87 forty, 4.47 shuttle).

247Sports Allen Trieu projects J.J. to be a second-round draft pick and compared the young man to legendary QB Drew Brees. Trieu also provided the following evaluation:

"Lean frame right now. Right around the average for height at the position, but needs to fill in more in the coming years. Fantastic arm talent. Can make every throw on the field, is consistent with accuracy and placement and has clean mechanics. Smart, competitive kid who has excelled in big games and big situations. Is not a big big running threat, but shows very good pocket presence, ability to escape the rush and make throws on the move. Passing skills and approach to the game scream multi-year college starter at a high-level, the main concern would be pure strength and adding bulk to his frame."

With all of that said, here are three reasons why you should believe the hype.
