Top and bottom recruits

Recruiting rankings can sometimes be off but in this case, the recruit who committed that is the lowest ranked is ranked that low due to him being unknown and his ranking will rise. On the other end, everyone knows about Michigan football’s new top recruit.

A.J. Henning

I cannot express to you how big of a get A.J. Henning is for Michigan. He’s a taller Jeremy Gallon and is the embodiment of speed-in-space. The 5-foot-10 180-pound WR ran a verified 4.46 forty and 4.08 shuttle and is a top 100 player (Braiden McGregor 81, A.J. Henning 80),

Henning’s evaluation from Allen Trieu tells you all you need to know about the rising star.

"Compact build. Not a kid who stands out on the hoof, but has a well-developed upper and lower body. Has elite speed. Great burst and acceleration and can score from anywhere on the field. Very good hands. Catches the ball well away from his body and shows the ability to go up and catch passes that are above his head. Good lower body strength and will break tackles. More of a kid that will run past defenders than a make-you-miss in a phone booth guy. Shows some elusiveness after the catch. Versatile and can play in the backfield, slot or as an outside receiver. Needs to still continue to work on route-running and wide receiver technique if that is what he will do more of in college. Has dealt with some injuries, so staying healthy will be key for him in college. A true home-run threat and one of the more electric players in his class."

Trieu compared A.J. to Chicago Bears WR Tarik Cohen and projected him to be a second-round draft pick in the NFL. Truly a great grab by Michigan footbll as Henning could be a day one starter.

Gaige Garcia

This kid is the unknown. Gaige Garcia committed to play for Michigan’s football and wrestling teams and was unranked prior to his commitment. Once he announced, he jumped from a two-star to a three-star seemingly overnight.

The guy is a 5-foot-10-inch ball of muscle who weighs 205 pounds. Without verified forty and shuttle times, it’s hard to get a read on just how explosive this kid can be; however, judging by his huddle highlights and his stats – 201 carries for 2,042 yards, 38 TD’s, 10.2 yards-per-carry – he could make an immediate impact in the RB room.
