True June kickoff

A few young men decided to take unofficial and official visits to Michigan and then the Twitter world went nuts. As background, whenever someone is about to commit, the Michigan football coaches and staff (usually Matt Dudek) post cryptic messages on Twitter usually referring to a recruit who is about to pull the trigger.

Well, this wasn’t a normal day as the Twitter traffic was off the charts. Dudek kept the count going as more and more young men committed and when the Tweets ran dry, there were a total of 10 yet to be named commitments to Michigan. On June 23, we learned five of their names.

Eamonn Dennis

Like Hibner, Eamonn Dennis is a three-star, and unlike Hibner, Eamonn hails from Massachusetts where he attends St. Johns.

The 5-foot-10-inch Dennis is listed as an athlete and has been compared to incoming freshman standout Mike Sainristil. Gattis already has big plans for the young man as Eamonn was told by Gattis – which he spoke about during his interview with TMI –  that he “wants me in the slot position, and as a running back in the backfield, too. He wants to move me around, bounce me around, like an all-purpose back type of player.”

Shorter and quicker has been the name of the recruiting game for WR’s under Josh Gattis, and Eamonn fits the bill.

Dennis is ranked at No. 4 from MA, No. 34 ATH, and No. 495 nationally and holds an 8776 composite rating.

Aaron Lewis

The Jersey duo of coach Anthony Campanile and Chris Partridge have struck again, this time by flipping Aaron Lewis from West Virginia to UM.

Lewis is a 6-foot-5-inch 235-pound defensive end from Williamstown, NJ, where he plays for Williamstown High School. Aaron is ranked No. 13 coming out of NJ, the No. 21 SDE, and No. 430 nationally. His composite score is listed at 8826.

The guys over at Rivals caught up with Lewis after he committed ($) and Aaron mentioned the state-of-the-art facilities, his relationship with those already committed, and the coaches as his major reasons for committing even though he said he didn’t know he was going to commit prior to the big recruiting weekend (Lewis was one of the official visitors).

Here’s what Brian Dohn had to say about Lewis in his scouting report:

"Ideal frame for defensive end. Good length and can carry 260 pounds with ease. Can play inside or on edge. Has fast-twitch muscles. Gets off ball quickly. Physical at point of attack. Re-directs well along line of scrimmage. Plus body control. Great motor. Has closing speed. Tackles through the ball carrier. Has a good swim move. Needs to work on staying lower within first few steps. Improved hand work is important. Uses speed to the edge too frequently. Multi-year starter at top-20 college program. Third day NFL draft pick."

William ‘Apache’ Mohan

William Mohan has been designated as the next Khaleke Hudson at Viper. The comparison is perfect considering both were three-star prospects and both are listed right around 6-foot. The only difference is Hudson came out a little heavier but Mohan has another year to throw on some weight.

"“They think he can come in there and play right away,” Erasmus Hall coach Danny Landberg told The Michigan Insider. “They haven’t seen many guys on film in the country that fit that position as well he does. He just fits it like a glove, they think. He is a relentless, Tasmanian devil type where he is just going to keep coming after you. That’s his game. His game is he is going to chase you like one of those National Geographic wolves chasing a rabbit and not giving up.”"

Mohan has an 8816 composite rating and is ranked third out of NY, 29th at his listed position of ATH, and No. 443 nationally.

Reece Atteberry

O-line coach Ed Warriner is a huge fan of Aurora Colorado native Reece Atteberry and that means you should be too.

“He (coach Warriner) just said that he had seen my film, seen me play and he liked the way I did my business, so he wanted to offer me a scholarship. I liked him a lot.” Reece Atteberry said, “This is one of the first times I talked to him and he seemed very personable and like a good guy.”

The 6-foot-5 260-pound offensive lineman is the sixth-ranked center in the nation and the sixth-ranked player from CO. Nationally, Atteberry is ranked 394th and holds an 8863 composite score and three-stars.

Reece went on to say the reason he committed had more to do with the history of the school than anything else.

“The relationship I have with the coaching staff is a big deal, but tradition is going to be really, really big in my decision,” Atteberry told 247Sports. “If there is a tradition already built, it is something that is contagious, something a lot bigger than yourself that you can buy into.”

Jordan Morant

“I had no inkling that he was going to go out there and commit to Michigan,” Jordan Morant‘s high school coach Vito Campanile said (brother of UM assistant Anthony Campanile). Sure coach, you had no idea.

The Jersey boys on UM’s staff have struck again, this time with one of the top defensive players in the country. Getting Jordan Morant was similar to bringing back Daxton Hill after he de-committed, not only because they play the same position but more importantly how well they play that position.

Both safeties and both ranked very high in their respective classes. Jordan was ranked 10th among the 247 composite rankings, still not bad, yet No. 1 in the 247 sports own rankings. Coming out of Jersey, he is the fifth-ranked in-state football player and No. 160 nationally. Standing at 5-foot-11 inches and weighing 212 pounds, Jordan holds a 9368 composite rating and four-stars.

Morant was the gem of the June 23rd commits and that’s saying something with how talented the rest of the guys are, and his sits as the fourth highest commit after Braiden McGregor and two other commits coming in the next slides.
