Michigan football: Wolverines 2020 recruiting class ranked in top 5
An abundance of commitments have come in over the past few weeks vaulting Michigan football 2020 recruiting class from the mid-’20s to fifth in the nation.
While not expected due to the low number of commitments prior to May, Michigan football has once again proven to be a recruiting powerhouse with the recent addition of some of the best football players in the county.
It all started with Braiden McGregor who, back in May, pledged his allegiance to Michigan becoming the highest ranked commit thus far, and then June happened.
A.J. Henning became the class leader a few days ago, and with him came a slew of young men who decided Michigan was the place for them. LB Kalal Mullings, S Jordan Morant, and RB Blake Corum are just a few of the athletes who Michigan added this week bringing the total number of players on the 2020 cycle to 20, a stark difference to the six commits Michigan had just prior to the onslaught of talent.
And with those commits comes a rise in class ranking. The Wolverines were ranked in the mid-’20s and recent developments brought them all the way up to fifth nationally and No. 1 in the Big Ten. According to 247Sports, the class has an average rating of 8955.
Rivals has Michigan footballs’ 2020 class at No. 4 behind Clemson, LSU, and Alabama, in that order. They also provided an average based on five stars, giving Michigan an average of 3.63 stars; however, their list is a man short as of today.

It’s not odd for Michigan to be ranked so high as Jim Harbaugh has achieved such a high-class ranking as recently as 2017, but that was his only year and there was a dip in 2018 where UM dropped to 22 nationally and third in the Big Ten. In 2019 Michigan football’s recruiting class broke the top ten and ranked atop the conference but that class still couldn’t find it’s way into the top five like this one.
There’s still a long time until the 2020 season kicks off and other teams could beat out the maize and blue, however, Michigan is aggressively targeting the top talent from around the country and producing some incredible results.
Hall of Famer Jerry Rice has a son named Brenden who plays WR and could add to the talent in Ann Arbor as would Roman Wilson; both guys mentioned by A.J. Henning in his interview with Wolverines Wire.
So while the recruiting trail heats up, look for Michigan to bring in some more of the best of the best because as A.J. Henning said, “I want to play with the best, so we can be the best.”
