Michigan Basketball: Draft review and catching up with Wolverines in NBA
2013 NBA draft
The Detroit Pistons could have picked Trey Burke at eight, instead, they selected Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who is now a Laker.
Trey Burke
Where the Pistons missed, the Utah Jazz didn’t. At No. 9, Trey found himself the subject of a trade up as the Jazz gave the Timberwolves their No.14 and 21 picks to move up for Burke. And Burke wasn’t the only Michigan basketball player to get drafted in the first round.
Tim Hardaway Jr.
Like his father, Tim Hardaway Jr. was selected in the first round and like his father, he is a bonified NBA star.
The New York Knicks picked Tim at No. 24, where he played for a couple of years before being traded as a part of a complicated three-team trade that I’m not going to try and explain here.
If you’re wondering why I didn’t list which team Trey is playing for, it’s because he and Tim were traded by the Knicks in January to the Mavericks. The trade involved eight players and was essentially a complete roster flip for both teams.
