Michigan Basketball: Recruiting expert predicts Abdur-Rahim to UM
Michigan basketball has been busy on the recruiting trail and one expert is predicting a key 2020 target, Jabri Abdur-Rahim, to end up with the Wolverines.
When it comes to the recruiting targets of Juwan Howard and the current Michigan basketball staff, we are still figuring out who is a priority and who isn’t.
However, it became clear early, even with the new staff, that Jabri Abdur-Rahim is a key target and he’s someone that the Wolverines would love to have as part of the 2020 class.
Howard and the rest of the Michigan basketball assistants were in attendance at the NBAPA Top 100 last week and Abdur-Rahim was one of the prospects UM was there to watch after extending the four-star an offer earlier in June.
And against the rest of the top prospects in the country, Abdur-Rahim didn’t disappoint. The 6-foot-5 son of former NBA player Shareef Abdur-Rahim stood out at the camp and proved to be one of the top players in attendance.
According to The Michigan Insider ($), he was the leading scorer at the NBAPA Top 100 with a scoring average of 17.3 PPG. More impressively, Abdur-Rahim showed off a stellar 3-point stroke, knocking down 50 percent of his shots (14/28) from beyond the arc and 47.7 percent overall.
Abdur-Rahim was healthy at the camp he was forced to miss last season due to injury. At this point, he is showing no signs of it and the fact that Michigan basketball maintained its interest, even when he was hurt, is helping the Wolverines, even with a new head coach.

The wing from Blairstown, New Jersey, also spoke highly of assistant Saddi Washington, who was thought to be a huge hire for Howard. This statement ($) from Abdur-Rahim is one reason why:
“(Washington) has been on me since day one,” Abdur-Rahim said. “He has just been telling me it’s a new style, but it’s some new energy. They’re going to build something great and start something real positive. So, I’m just definitely looking forward to seeing what they have to say.”
In addition to Abdur-Rahim’s relationship with Washington, his family also has ties to Howard Eisley, who played with his father. That should help UM and the No. 2 player in the state of New Jersey also said he was looking forward to seeing UM play under the former Fab-Five member.
With all that in mind, one recruiting expert from Basketball Illustrated Reports is now projecting that the 2020 four-star will wind up with Michigan. Dain Ervin is the analyst making the prediction and it’s the first 247 crystal ball headed the Wolverines way since Howard took over as head coach.
The 2020 class is going to be critical to Howard’s success and with Zeb Jackson in the fold already, a potential commitment from Abdur-Rahim would be a huge boon for the Wolverines, especially given his shooting abilities.
