Michigan Football: More progress made with 2020 4-star RJ Moten
Michigan football hosted four-star defensive back RJ Moten last weekend and seemed to make even more progress with the 2020 athlete.
When it comes to the safety position in the 2020 recruiting class, there are some question marks surrounding the Michigan football program.
For a long time the Wolverines seemed to be in really good position for a pair of 2020 safeties in Makari Paige, a top-five player in the state of Michigan and Jordan Morant, the top-ranked safety in 2020 according to the 247 sports own rankings.
However, with other teams hot on the trail of both players, including Penn State, which hosted them both last weekend in a visit that seemed to go well for the Nittany Lions, it’s possible Michigan football could miss out on both despite holding 67 percent of the crystal balls on each.
Yet, even if Paige and Morant end up elsewhere, Michigan has some other solid options in mind, including 2020 four-star athlete RJ Moten.
Moten is a 6-foot, 200-pound athlete from Delran, New Jersey. The 247 sports composite rankings have him 331st overall, as well as the No. 18 athlete nationally as well as the ninth-best player in New Jersey, a state where his primary recruiter, Chris Partridge, has had a ton of success.
Partridge was able to land Rashan Gary from New Jersey and after Moten visited Ann Arbor last weekend, he seems like he is leaning strongly towards the Wolverines.

“Man, it was amazing,” Moten said to The Michigan Insider ($). “I’m speechless. I sat in meetings with Coach Partridge and Coach Brown then with Coach Harbaugh and his son. I went out with freshman Joey Velazquez and Cade (McNamara). I also basically worked out at the camp a little bit with some other guys.”
Moten also told The Michigan Insider ($) that Jim Harbaugh would be willing to let him play football and baseball, something Moten wants. The recent run by the Wolverines in the College World Series has also helped in the recruiting effort.
“Jim Harbaugh and Coach Partridge were just giving me background info and where they see me playing and how early and that I can play both, which is what I want to do with baseball and football.”
While Moten could play multiple sports at Michigan, he is also capable of multiple positions as he has played running back, wide receiver and safety in high school. UM wants him to play safety as of now but that could always change.
The reality is that Michigan football doesn’t have a commitment at wide receiver, running back or safety for the 2020 class, so Moten would be a valuable addition. And with all of his crystal ball predictions going to the Wolverines, he feels like a good bet to don the winged helmet.
